Kaye Avery

Kaye is a skilled and experienced career management specialist and transition coach with a background in training and facilitation. She works with individuals, employees and groups at all levels and to facilitate positive change, greater personal/professional congruence and self-confidence. She has a reputation for empowering people, stimulating self-insight and providing the practical skills and techniques for finding and creating the work experience they want.

Professional Profile

Kaye often writes (or is interviewed for) articles in key magazines and newspapers on current career and job market trends. She has been interviewed on TVNZ’s Morning Report several times as a spokesperson for the Career Development Association of New Zealand, interviewed by Mark Sainsbury, Radio Live, and on RNZ; ‘Nine to Noon’ by Kathryn Ryan, and ‘Afternoons with Jim Mora’ by Jim Mora on topics of career/workforce issues and trends.

Since beginning in the careers industry 1999 Kaye’s experience includes working in HR consulting, delivering and coordinating outplacement and career management services, recruitment and running her own business. This background ensures that she provides practical advice about navigating the complexity of workplace dynamics, the challenging job market and to be successful in acquiring the ‘right’ job.

Kaye has a Graduate Diploma in Career Development, is a Master NLP practitioner, has certificates in Advanced Supervision through NZAC, Enhanced Relationships Skills Training through the Imago Institute and is a Myers Briggs certified practitioner. She completed a research project in 2010 as part of the Masters in Career Development.

Kaye is a Fellow member and in 2014 and 2015 was President of the Career Development Association of New Zealand (CDANZ).  To be a Fellow member of CDANZ (FMCDANZ) a practitioner must have worked in careers for over 7 years and have made a contribution to the Career Industry. Like Professional members, Fellows are bound by a Code of Ethics which ensures that the practitioner is competent and works within an ethical framework. She is also a member of the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (HRINZ)

Kaye works with a group of career practitioners in a collaborative practice where the consultants all bring their specific strengths and areas of specialisation. “This enables us to resource large change projects when necessary and refer clients to the consultant with the best background for that client”. A born and bred business advocate from an entrepreneurial background, Jennie is in a unique position to join her two fields of interest and expertise: business and career development. Her education and experience has always focussed on the human experience, and she has the insights and experience clients value as they attempt to navigate their own career journeys. She is a pragmatic and inspirational coach and trainer.

As a qualified Career Consultant with 7 years’ experience, Jennie has found a way to support others using her business degree and 20-year history of corporate work in Marketing, Business Development, and Finance. Jennie has experienced many of the work environments clients are in, or considering, as an employer, employee, business partner, part-time worker, and freelancer in a variety of industries and environments in New Zealand and overseas. Her ability to understand business context has enabled her to develop her refreshingly open, engaging and action-focussed approach.

Her commitment to best practice and professionalism has led to Jennie’s current volunteer role as Secretary on the National Executive Committee of CDANZ, New Zealand’s professional body for career development professionals. She is also an accredited MBTI trainer.
